anybody this religiously moronic belongs in a thread about a religiously moronic "theory".
and directly on topic, here's stephen's explanation for why evolution is bunk:
"Evolution isn't true, because if we evolved from monkeys, how can they still be here? (2010)"

The museum itself is a mere Australopithicus on a T-Rex ride away from Cincinnati. This is fortunate because Cinty -- that great bulwark of righteousness standing against the light brigade charge of God-less America (read: that fucker Obama and all those faggots) -- has a professional baseball team. The Redlegs (Reds? fuck you, commie!) have a sponsorship deal this year with the museum -- Faith Day! http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/cin/ticketing/faith_day.jsp
Oh, sure, you're reading the sponsors and the entertainment listed and thinking, "huh, is it faith day, or Fundamentalist Christian Day?" I, however, am confident that an outfit such as the Redlegs (former owner Marge "Hitler wasn't that bad" Schott) wouldn't leave out their brethren in faith. I'm sure you can find a kosher dog, halal dog, or a veggie dog (taking into account all your major weird religions that refuse to accept that Jim Caviezel got nailed to a tree to save us).
So enjoy some baseball and don't forget, "blessed are the cheese makers." |

| How and Why* |

I'm no more muted than Publius in my opinion of ID. Science is science, and Darwin's theory is simply born out by the evidence in a way that no other theory is. Practically, that makes it a factual model - unless and until credible evidence comes to light that challenges it. Science answers the question "How?", and all available evidence says Darwin got the "how" right. ID is religon substituted as science, forgoing the requirement for empirical evidence on which all other science is built. Religion (and hence, ID) deal with the "Why?" question. Asking "Why?" is important (although my personal opinion is that the question matters more than any unproveable answer it may suggest). That said, there is no need to rationalize How and Why to each other. One is empirirical, the other philosophical. We could all live happily ever after if we could accept that, but fundamentalism is the fly in the ointment. Until we all agree to drop the preposterous notion that so-called "holy books" are in fact the literal divine word, there is no possibility for rational logic-based discourse. Yup, it's a show-stopper of obstinance in this, and many other vital areas.
* This was all cribbed from some English guy I heard on NPR. No idea who he was, except that he was the former Bishop of something in the UK. |

today is the 200th anniversary of charles darwin's birthday. who'd have thunk that even after 200 years people would still be so threatened by the idea that there is no "divine watchmaker" that they'd still be pushing idiocies like "intelligent design"...well, i suppose the people pushing "id" don't really care one way or the other, as long as they can raise the hackles of enough lemmings to garner some sort form or power for themselves...we'll always have snake oil salesmen..
but darwin is simply too dominant to be brushed aside by their ilk..

the oh-so-progressive catholic church says intelligent design isn't science, i just have to smile...
"'Intelligent design does not belong to science and there is no justification for the demand it be taught as a scientific theory alongside the Darwinian explanation,' said the article in the Tuesday edition of the newspaper."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060119/ts_nm/religion_catholic_evolution_dc
though the sting in the tail of this position is that, while id is not science, it could still be "correct", which could be used as a position from which to undercut the scientific method in general.
we shall see... |

...my take on this issue has always been of the "who cares?" variety. what harm could it do, really?
and i still feel that way.
BUT, if ever there was a piece of satire that effectively made it's point while being simultaneously hilarious...it is this.
http://www.venganza.org/index.htm
of course it's absurd...
but is it any less absurd that burning bushes, parting seas, fishes and loaves, riding a magic donkey, angels, and many other things in the old/new testament or the koran? the answer is a resounding no.
and, come to think of it, global warming was a lot less of a problem when there more pirates around. who can refute that.
may you be blessed by his noodly appendage!
